Ingredients:

  • 1 large sweet potato (approx. 300g), peeled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 medium Gala or Fuji apple (approx. 180g), peeled, cored, and diced
  • 4 tablespoons steaming liquid, breast milk, or prepared formula

Instructions:

  1. Peel the sweet potato and apple thoroughly, ensuring all skin is removed as it can be a choking hazard or cause a grainy texture.
  2. Cut both the potato and apple into uniform 1/2 inch cubes. Note: Uniformity is the secret to making sure everything finishes cooking at the exact same time.
  3. Fill a pot with 2 inches of water and bring it to a rolling boil over medium high heat.
  4. Place your steamer basket inside and add the sweet potato cubes. Steam for 5 minutes until they just begin to soften on the edges.
  5. Add the diced apple pieces into the basket with the potatoes. Steam both together for an additional 10 minutes until the sweet potato is buttery and collapses under a fork.
  6. Carefully lift the basket out and let the pieces cool for just a minute so the steam doesn't blow the lid off your blender.
  7. Transfer the steamed sweet potato and apple into a high speed blender or food processor.
  8. Add 2 tablespoons of your chosen liquid (reserved water, milk, or formula) to start.
  9. Blend on high for 45 seconds until the mixture is a velvet smooth, fluid consistency with no visible lumps.
  10. Check the thickness; if it looks like heavy paste, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of liquid and pulse again.
