Ingredients:
- 1 large sweet potato (approx. 300g), peeled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- 1 medium Gala or Fuji apple (approx. 180g), peeled, cored, and diced
- 4 tablespoons steaming liquid, breast milk, or prepared formula
Instructions:
- Peel the sweet potato and apple thoroughly, ensuring all skin is removed as it can be a choking hazard or cause a grainy texture.
- Cut both the potato and apple into uniform 1/2 inch cubes. Note: Uniformity is the secret to making sure everything finishes cooking at the exact same time.
- Fill a pot with 2 inches of water and bring it to a rolling boil over medium high heat.
- Place your steamer basket inside and add the sweet potato cubes. Steam for 5 minutes until they just begin to soften on the edges.
- Add the diced apple pieces into the basket with the potatoes. Steam both together for an additional 10 minutes until the sweet potato is buttery and collapses under a fork.
- Carefully lift the basket out and let the pieces cool for just a minute so the steam doesn't blow the lid off your blender.
- Transfer the steamed sweet potato and apple into a high speed blender or food processor.
- Add 2 tablespoons of your chosen liquid (reserved water, milk, or formula) to start.
- Blend on high for 45 seconds until the mixture is a velvet smooth, fluid consistency with no visible lumps.
- Check the thickness; if it looks like heavy paste, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of liquid and pulse again.
